What's New at Cooper-Gordon LLP
Cooper-Gordon officially announced the opening of its satellite office on California’s central coast this past year. Avery Cooper and Frieda Gordon are now accepting Family Law, Estate Planning, Estate Administration and Estate Litigation cases throughout Santa Barbara County and San Luis Obispo County. Avery and Frieda offer sixty years of combined experience in Los Angeles, one of the nation’s busiest cities when it comes to family and estate law. They can offer you cultivated expertise along with the individualized attention of an intimate, boutique law firm.
Lots of changes to the size and scope of our law firm this Fall. Our long time and trusted associated Drorit Bick Raiter is heading off on maternity leave in mid-September, expecting her second child, a boy, shortly thereafter. All of us attended her wedding and the bris of her first born son and are excited to welcome the newest little Raiter to the fold. By the beginning of next year, she should be back at work, highly skilled at multi-tasking as she has been doing for several years now, especially since Naveh was born 2 ½ years ago.
Meanwhile, our associate of eight years, Katherine Su O’Connor, will be returning from maternity leave to coincide with Dro’s temporary departure, having spent the past nine months enjoying her special time with her son John and husband Brian.
Lastly, we have had to say good-bye to our newest associate, Erin Zivic, who also recently had a baby and, after maternity leave, accepted a full-time position at another family law firm.
Avery Cooper and Frieda Gordon are excitedly preparing to attend Frieda’s daughter’s wedding in Cedar Lakes Estate, New York in late September. Julie worked for the Cooper-Gordon law firm for several years as office manager before leaving for New York City to attend Parsons School of Design. She subsequently partnered up with her employer after graduation to design and run a tremendously successful company specializing in women’s designer handbags and designer footwear, including shoes, boots and sandals made entirely of fabulous plant-based materials. She also is a wonderfully talented musician and singer-songwriter and has taught at the Apple Seeds School in Manhattan for 6 years, where she met her future husband, also a musician, who currently manages the school and also teaches there.
Avery Cooper is off to San Diego, CA in mid-September, right before the wedding, to attend the California State Bar Conference as part of the Los Angeles County Delegation to the State Bar Conference of Delegates, having been a Member of the Resolutions Committee of the Los Angeles County Family Law Section Executive Committee this year. This is a very exciting and productive job, although quite time-consuming and thought-provoking. Avery has excelled in his ability to analyze and convince his fellow members, none of whom practice family law, of the upsides and downsides of each proposed piece of legislation.
Lastly, Frieda Gordon, has continued to handle a full case load of family law, estate planning and probate and trust administration and litigation matters while also helping in the many-faceted pre-wedding tasks and caretaking for her 90 year old mother who has dementia. Her ability to participate on and lead various committees and to write and analyze legal articles provocatively has been curtailed and she hopes to return to that labor of love sometime in the near future.
